daily mail: Two terrorist ringleaders were each sentenced to 40,000 years in jail yesterday for the Madrid train bombings which claimed 191 lives.
Moroccans Jamal Zougam, 34, who placed at least one of the bombs on a packed commuter train, and Othman el Gnaoui, 32, said to be the right-hand man of the chief plotter, were convicted of terrorist murder and belonging to a terrorist organisation.
The record sentences are symbolic as Spanish law sets 40 years as the maximum which can actually be served, but reflect the nation’s outrage at the Al Qaedainspired atrocity.
